Justice F.A. Aliyu, presiding over the case in Court 53 of the FCT High Court in Apo, has scheduled the hearing for January 29, 2025. The suit, filed under case number CV/4554/2024, was brought forward by the claimant’s lawyer, Eloka Okoye of Kehinde and Partners LP.

Xing, a former employee of Pure Biotech Company Ltd, is accused of falsely accusing Mr. Liu Yangxi, the Managing Director of Pure Biotech, of tax evasion, money laundering, and forgery. These allegations were made after Yangxi terminated Xing’s employment due to alleged misconduct.

According to the claimant’s statement of claim, Xing initiated a campaign of defamation by sending an email to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), accusing Yangxi of tax evasion and money laundering. Xing is also alleged to have disseminated these falsehoods to various companies linked to Yangxi, aiming to damage his reputation.

Yangxi contends that these actions were part of a retaliatory effort after his dismissal from the company and are designed to harm his personal and professional image.

The claimant seeks the court’s intervention to compel Xing to pay N5 billion in general damages, in addition to N20 million in aggravated and exemplary damages for the malicious falsehoods. Yangxi also requests the court to declare the letters sent to the FIRS, EFCC, and Weihai International Economic and Technical Corporation in China as defamatory and malicious.

The court has ordered that Xing file his response before the January hearing.
