In his ruling, Judge Sarki Yola emphasized the importance of thorough investigations by law enforcement agencies, such as the Hisbah Commission, when handling serious allegations against prominent individuals. He underscored the need for careful consideration to prevent damage to reputations.
“Based on the findings from the Assistant Inspector General of Police’s office, there is no evidence to support the claim of an affair between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu,” the judge stated.
The court noted that both the complainant and his legal representatives failed to appear to challenge the police findings, leading the judge to dismiss the case. “Since the complainant and his lawyers are not present to contest the police report, I have no option but to strike out the case,” Sarki Yola added.
Following the ruling, Sankara’s counsel, Barrister Sadam Suleiman, expressed satisfaction with the judgment. “We have always maintained our client’s innocence, and the court has affirmed this by clearing his name based on the police investigation,” Suleiman said.
Meanwhile, Rabiu Shu’aibu, counsel for Tasleem Baba Nabegu, stated that they may pursue defamation charges against Nasiru Buba for damaging her reputation. “We will discuss with our client about the possibility of filing a defamation case against Nasiru Buba,” Shu’aibu said.
