Inyali suggested that instead of consistently criticizing and setting expectations for the next council chairmen, particularly in Obudu LGA where both men are from, Jalingo should focus on presenting candidates for the elections.

In a statement from Calabar, Inyali, who also serves as the national president of the Cross River State University Alumni Association, said, “Rather than setting the agenda for others, AAC and Agba Jalingo should produce candidates like other parties and let the people decide who they want to lead.”

As an active participant in politics, Inyali believes it would be more productive for Jalingo to look inward and identify solutions to the leadership challenges he perceives in their local government, rather than relying on parties he criticizes to provide those solutions.

Inyali also reminded Jalingo of his previous commitment that his party would be prepared for future elections. “I’m looking forward to seeing AAC candidates for chairmanship and councilorship positions in all ten wards,” he said. “It’s time for him to translate his leadership ideals into action. As a state chairman of a political party, instead of critiquing from the sidelines, why not present a candidate who embodies the leadership qualities he advocates for and let the people decide?”

Inyali expressed his eagerness to scrutinize an AAC candidate in the same way Jalingo often evaluates candidates from other parties.

In response, Agba Jalingo, who is also a civil rights activist and journalist, reaffirmed his commitment to holding Cross River LG chairmen, particularly those in Obudu LGA, accountable to ensure they do not misuse public funds.

Jalingo warned that if local government allocations are redirected to the councils as directed by the Supreme Court, those seeking to enrich themselves from these funds should reconsider their intentions. “You won’t be able to steal, and even if you do, it won’t be much. We will hold you accountable every step of the way,” he stated.

He also mentioned his intention to use the Open Governance Project (OGP), which the state adopted in 2020, to prevent corruption. Jalingo emphasized that LGA chairmen do not have immunity and can be sued or even jailed while in office.

He pledged to track all financial receipts to the Obudu Council diligently, using the Freedom of Information (FOI) law to request detailed records of monthly allocations, internally generated revenue, and expenditure, including the salaries and allowances of local government workers, political appointees, health and primary school staff, and traditional rulers. Jalingo also plans to demand a forensic examination of the LGA payroll to ensure transparency and accountability.
