Governor Bassey Edet Otu made this announcement during the launch of the cassava value chain implementation program in Calabar.

The governor, represented by the secretary to the state government, Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, highlighted the significant role of cassava in the state’s economy.

He noted that about 90 percent of the state’s population is engaged in cassava cultivation and processing, making cassava the primary staple food in Cross River State.

Governor Otu emphasized the importance of cassava to the state’s economy, stating, “No state in Nigeria can compare with Cross River in cassava production, and our economy is dead without cassava because it is the highest agricultural revenue earner for our people.”

Dr. Johnson Ebokpo, the commissioner for agriculture and irrigation, supported the governor’s remarks, underlining the prevalence of cassava in the state.

He noted that virtually every household in Cross River State consumes some form of cassava meal daily.
