The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerians residing in France to remain calm, maintain peace and comply with the laws of their host country.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal in a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, 2026, by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, in Abuja.

The NiDCOM chairman urged Nigerians in France to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid unnecessary confrontations and refrain from engaging in violence or activities capable of disrupting public order.

She also encouraged them to cooperate with French authorities, respect lawful instructions and take appropriate steps to maintain peaceful relationships within their communities.

Dabiri-Erewa advised Nigerians to obtain safety updates from credible sources and avoid circulating unverified information, particularly on social media. She cautioned that spreading rumours could trigger unnecessary fear, confusion and tension.

She further urged Nigerians to respect their neighbours and other members of society, irrespective of nationality, religion, cultural background or personal differences.

According to her, Nigerians living abroad have a responsibility to uphold the country’s reputation by demonstrating good character, respecting the laws of their host nations and maintaining peaceful relationships with people around them.

The commission’s chairman also advised Nigerians to exercise restraint when faced with challenging situations and avoid actions that could escalate disagreements into serious confrontations.

She encouraged anyone whose safety or rights might be threatened to seek appropriate legal assistance and contact emergency services or Nigerian consular officials when necessary.

Dabiri-Erewa also called on Nigerian community leaders, families, students, professionals and associations across France to work together to promote peace, unity and responsible conduct among Nigerians living in the country.

She urged community representatives to disseminate accurate information, discourage the spread of rumours and encourage members of their respective communities to remain calm and law-abiding.

The NiDCOM chairman reiterated the importance of peaceful coexistence, urging Nigerians in France to respect the laws of their host country, protect the image of Nigeria and maintain cordial relationships with other residents.
