The deputies, led by Deputy National Youth Leader Comrade Timothy Osadolor, expressed their support for Umar Damagum and affirmed that he would remain as PDP Chairman until December 2025. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Osadolor emphasized that members dissatisfied with the decision are free to leave the party.
According to Osadolor and other deputies, the ongoing challenges within the PDP cannot be blamed on any single individual. He called on party members to abandon the culture of blame and focus on rebuilding the party. He also urged members to stop leveraging court orders and media appearances to destabilize the PDP and instead work collaboratively with Damagum to restore the party’s fortunes.
Regarding the leadership crisis involving the National Secretary position, which is contested by two individuals, Osadolor stated that the party would await the court’s verdict.
“Since 2013, personal ambitions have driven many of us into acts of mischief and abuse of power,” he said. “This has resulted in broken agreements and the exploitation of constitutional ambiguities by those in authority, even through the courts. We are all complicit—whether as perpetrators, supporters, or bystanders.”
Osadolor called for unity, urging members to set aside pride and join efforts to reposition the PDP for success under the leadership of Amb. Illya Damagum.
“This is no time for blame games. From the BOT chairman who endorsed an opposition governor, to candidates who negotiated with other parties, to NWC members who lost their polling units—everyone must take responsibility. We must prioritize the party above personal interests,” he stated.
He also criticized members who use public platforms to discredit the PDP, describing such actions as counterproductive. “If you want to leave, do so respectfully, but stop creating confusion through court distractions or media campaigns. The party’s future is more important than any individual.”
Osadolor highlighted issues such as distrust, insincerity, self-serving interests, and poor enforcement of agreements as major factors contributing to the PDP’s struggles. He also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of targeting the PDP and Nigerians with tyrannical actions.
He concluded by urging members to explore internal mechanisms for conflict resolution and support the PDP’s leadership, emphasizing that unity is critical for the party’s recovery.
Present at the press briefing were PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi, Deputy National Financial Secretary Ndubisi Eneh, and Deputy National Organising Secretary Pascal Adigwe, alongside Osadolor.
