The recent delivery is part of the six million barrels of crude expected by the world’s largest single-train refinery. Earlier, the refinery had received three million barrels, and according to Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Mr. Akin Omole, it is set to receive the remaining two million by early January 2024. This cumulative crude supply is crucial for the refinery’s initial run and the production of various refined products, including diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG, before progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The successful delivery of the six million barrels is poised to play a significant role in addressing fuel supply challenges in Nigeria and West African countries. Designed to process 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery can handle various African and international crude grades, ensuring self-sufficiency in meeting Nigeria’s refined product requirements and generating surpluses for export.

The refinery’s infrastructure includes two Single Point Mooring (SPM) facilities for crude intake, three SPMs for discharging petroleum products, and truck-loading gantries capable of handling 2,900 trucks daily. Additionally, it features a self-sufficient marine facility with the capacity to handle large vessels globally. All refined products from the refinery will conform to Euro V specifications and comply with international emission norms and standards.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, expressed delight at reaching this significant milestone and emphasized the importance of ramping up the refinery to its full capacity in the coming months. He looks forward to achieving the next significant milestone by delivering the first batch of products to the Nigerian market.
