The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has notified electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in the North-East that significant power outages or drastically reduced electricity supply will occur across large parts of the region from June 10 to June 14, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an internal memo signed by Engr. J.O. Joseph, the Regional Operations Manager for TCN’s Bauchi Region, the company explained that the outage is necessary for the construction of 330kV Turn-In and Turn-Out towers at the new Bauchi 330kV Substation. This work will require a temporary shutdown of critical transmission lines.

According to the memo, the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV line will be taken offline on June 14 to allow for the safe crossing of the new towers over the existing infrastructure.

A broader disruption, however, will affect the Jos–Gombe single circuit (SC) line from 10:00 AM on June 10 to 5:00 PM on June 14, causing a complete power outage in Damaturu, Molai, Yola, and Jalingo. Meanwhile, Gombe and Biu substations will be powered by the Dadin Kowa Hydro Power Plant, while Baga Road Substation will draw supply from the MEPP. The memo noted that this update overrides any previous notice.

DisCos Confirm Widespread Impact

Yola Electricity Distribution Company has confirmed that the blackout will affect areas in Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe States, especially injection substations located in Damaturu, Molai, Yola, and Jalingo.

However, Biu will continue to receive power from the Dadin Kowa hydro source, while Baga Road (Maiduguri) will be supplied via MEPP. Areas such as Nguru, Machina, and nearby communities will get electricity through the 33kV Nguru feeder.

Similarly, Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) confirmed that the planned load shedding would impact customers in Gombe and Bauchi States.

In a statement released on Facebook, JED attributed the disruptions to limited transmission capacity from TCN caused by ongoing reconstruction and reinforcement work at the Bauchi Transmission Station.

“Gombe is currently being supplied through the 132kV Jos–Bauchi–Gombe transmission line and the Dadin Kowa Hydro Station, both of which are unable to meet full demand,” the statement said.

The company also noted that Ashaka Cement Plant and other major consumers would be affected and appealed for customers’ understanding during the maintenance period.
