Following his appointment, Senator Mark addressed the nation, unveiling a bold agenda for the new opposition coalition under the ADC platform. He declared that the coalition’s primary mission is to rescue Nigeria’s democracy, safeguard its institutions, and provide a credible alternative to the current administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
In his address, Mark emphasized the deteriorating state of the nation, citing growing insecurity, widespread poverty, the weakening of democratic institutions, and the hijacking of opposition parties. He lamented what he described as the transformation of the National Assembly into a “mere appendage” of the executive, warning that Nigeria risks slipping into a one-party dictatorship.
He stated:
“We are united in our belief that no sacrifice is too great in service of our country. This coalition is more than a political alliance—it is a historic rescue mission for our democracy and our people.”
Senator Mark stressed that the coalition—comprising opposition parties, civil society groups, youth movements, and other patriotic Nigerians—had unanimously adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the political platform for their collective journey.
“The ADC will be a party where the voice of every member counts; a home for patriots from all backgrounds. A party of rules, values, equity, and justice. One that unites North and South, young and old, women and men.”
He further laid out the guiding principles of the new coalition:
-
Unity over division
-
Action over excuses
-
Justice over inequality
-
Rule of law over impunity
-
Transparency over opacity
-
Inclusion over nepotism
Speaking directly to Nigerians—especially the youth, the poor, the displaced, and the disillusioned—Mark affirmed that “this coalition is for you.” He encouraged all citizens to rally behind the movement for real change and reclaim their democratic power.
“Let it be known today across Nigeria and beyond: The opposition is united. The platform is ADC. The time is now. The mission is clear—Rescue Nigeria, Rebuild Nigeria, Return power to the people.”
