The coordinated offensive, aimed at rooting out terrorist enclaves in the Southern Lake Chad region, also led to the recovery of heavy weaponry, including anti-aircraft ammunition believed to have been seized in a prior attack on Cameroonian Defence Forces.
Speaking to Channels Television in Maiduguri, the Theatre Commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, confirmed that troops struck a border settlement known as Manawaji.
“Our forces are intensifying sustained clearance operations in the Southern Lake Chad border areas,” he stated.
“During the latest push, troops engaged terrorists at Manawaji, near the Cameroon border between Rann and Gamboru Ngala, killing ten insurgents and recovering multiple weapons and ammunition, including anti-aircraft rounds.”
Abubakar revealed that the recovered anti-aircraft weapons were suspected to have been looted during a past ambush on Cameroonian troops.
Located 154km from Maiduguri, Ngala, and Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge LGA at 183km distance, are both considered insurgency hotspots in the ongoing conflict.
The Theatre Commander praised the soldiers’ performance and noted that the recent deployment of advanced combat equipment had significantly boosted morale.
“We won’t relent until every terrorist is eliminated,” he vowed, affirming that operations will remain aggressive to stabilize the volatile border zones.
The military continues to fortify its presence around Lake Chad and adjoining border communities to thwart any attempts by insurgents to regroup or infiltrate.
