The other lawmakers who joined the APC are Bright Iyamu (PDP – Orhionmwon South II), Richard Edosa (PDP – Oredo West), and Sunday Ojezele (LP – Esan South East). With their defection, the APC now commands a majority in the House with 13 members, while the PDP’s presence has been reduced to 11.

The legislators were formally welcomed at the APC Secretariat in Benin by Acting State Chairman, Jarret Tenebe. They cited unresolved internal crises and deep divisions within their former parties as the key factors behind their decision to switch allegiance.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Edosa described their defection as a “pivotal moment”, expressing confidence in the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo. He affirmed their commitment to collaborating with the APC-led administration to drive Edo State’s development forward.

In response, Tenebe commended their decision, calling it a “courageous step toward a better Edo State.” He reassured them of full integration within the party, emphasizing that their defection strengthens the APC’s resolve to enhance governance, security, and economic growth in the state.

The event concluded with a symbolic handing over of APC brooms to the defecting lawmakers, marking their official induction into the ruling party.
