El-Rufai made these remarks in a viral video while addressing members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), asserting that the legal battles plaguing opposition parties were orchestrated to divert their leadership from core responsibilities. According to him, certain individuals were allegedly contracted to create instability within these parties.
Responding in a statement issued on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Lagos, NNPP’s National Chairman, Agbo Major, dismissed El-Rufai’s claims as misleading. He emphasized that the party’s challenges stemmed from the ambitions of some members who disregarded established agreements and party regulations, not external interference from the APC.
Major urged El-Rufai to refrain from meddling in NNPP affairs, clarifying that the party does not see itself in opposition to any particular political entity, including the APC.
The statement read: “El-Rufai’s claims are misleading and likely based on information from individuals opposed to NNPP’s internal democratic processes.
The crisis within NNPP began after the 2023 general elections following the dissolution of a Memorandum of Understanding that had formed a temporary alliance between NNPP, The National Movement (TNM), and the Kwankwassiya Movement.
The origins and developments of this disagreement have been publicly documented across various media platforms since 2023.”
