Defence Headquarters Challenges CAN To Provide Evidence Of Military Involvement In Plateau Killings

The Defence Headquarters has announced its intent to engage with Rev. Timothy Daluk, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. Major Gen Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, acknowledged the emotional impact of traumatic experiences and stated, “It is not unusual for emotions to cloud people’s judgment when they have been confronted with a very traumatizing experience.” He emphasized the commitment to thoroughly investigate Rev. Daluk’s allegations after having a direct conversation with him.

Despite the accusations, Major Gen Buba assured that the military would continue to carry out its duties professionally, adhering to the highest international standards. Rev. Daluk had previously accused the Nigerian military, in a video statement, of overseeing the killings of Christians and the destruction of property in Mangu. He claimed that military personnel were complicit in forcing Christians out of the new market, allowing militias to burn their homes, while leaving Muslims untouched.

The Defence Headquarters aims to address these serious allegations through a comprehensive and impartial inquiry, with the goal of obtaining a clearer understanding of the events in Mangu and ensuring accountability within the military’s ranks.
