The incident, which took place on Thursday, was discovered by Force Headquarters Annex officer Tolorunloju Stephen, who had just returned from Ikeja around 1:20 p.m. According to Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, Oloyede had been assigned to provide security for the company.
Upon entering the security office, Stephen found Oloyede resting his head on a table. When asked if he was okay, the inspector reassured him that he was fine.
Odutola explained that Stephen placed his bag and pistol on the table before stepping into the restroom. Moments later, a gunshot was heard.
Rushing back, Stephen discovered Oloyede lying in a pool of blood. With the help of private security personnel, the wounded officer was rushed to Ota General Hospital but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
The police quickly visited the scene, recovered Oloyede’s service pistol, and transported his body to Ota General Hospital for an autopsy. The case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran for further investigation.
Odutola confirmed that Oloyede’s family has been notified, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
