The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, has rejected Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s invitation to a meeting at the Government House, insisting that formal communication must be used instead of social media announcements.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The invitation, sent via the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tammy Danagogo, was scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. to discuss key legislative matters, including the Assembly’s sitting arrangements, outstanding allowances, and the 2025 budget presentation.

However, the 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike have indicated that they may not attend the meeting unless their conditions are met.

‘We Are Not Kids,’ Lawmakers Rebuke Fubara

Isaiah Opuende, a lawmaker representing Akuku-Toru Constituency 2, criticized the governor for extending the invitation through social media.

“It’s time for us to determine our own ‘dey.’ When the ‘dey your dey’ statement began, our principal assured us that our turn would come. Now, our turn has arrived,” Opuende said, ridiculing the governor’s previous stance.

He further declared, “Dey your dey, make we dey our dey. You cannot just post a letter on social media and expect us to honor it. We are not kids. The governor must formally communicate with the Assembly. That’s all.”

Ex-LG Chairmen Mock Fubara’s Invitation

In a viral video, former local government chairmen from Wike’s administration were seen ridiculing Governor Fubara’s call for a meeting.

Samuel Nwanosike, the former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, led a group in a chant: “Dey your dey, make I dey my dey, dey your dey, nobody worry Amaewhule.”

Assembly Rejects Cabinet Appointments, Demands Budget Submission

Following a Supreme Court ruling affirming their legitimacy, the lawmakers reconvened and demanded that Governor Fubara submit the 2025 budget and formally nominate commissioners and other key officials.

They also asserted that the current cabinet lacks legal backing and summoned the Chairman and Commissioners of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to appear before them on Monday.

However, the Fubara-led administration ignored these demands, with Commissioner for Information Joseph Johnson stating that the government was awaiting the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment before making any moves.

Fubara Extends Olive Branch Amid Political Crisis

After the CTC was released on Thursday and published in national newspapers on Friday, the SSG, Danagogo, officially sent a letter on Sunday to Speaker Amaewhule, inviting the lawmakers to a meeting with the governor.
