Drama As Desmond Elliot Kneels Before Gbajabiamila, Pleads For Forgiveness

Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, following a disagreement surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Surulere Constituency I in Lagos State.

Elliot was seen in a video circulating on social media kneeling before Gbajabiamila and pleading for forgiveness, while also expressing his desire to reconcile with the APC leadership in Lagos.

“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future, Ema binu baba,” Elliot said while appealing to Gbajabiamila.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the apology comes months after the lawmaker became embroiled in a dispute with the party leadership over the conduct of the APC primary held in May.

Elliot had withdrawn from the primary, alleging that his supporters were subjected to intimidation and political pressure during the exercise. He subsequently rejected the outcome and indicated that he would challenge the process through the party’s internal appeal mechanism.

The lawmaker, however, failed to secure the APC ticket, which went to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who was widely regarded as having the backing of Gbajabiamila.

Odunuga-Bakare reportedly won the primary with 11,385 votes, while Elliot received 270 votes.

In the video, Elliot prostrated himself before Gbajabiamila while asking for forgiveness and seeking to mend ties. Gbajabiamila, in response, asked the lawmaker to stand up after his apology.

The development has attracted attention within political circles, particularly amid efforts to resolve the disagreement that followed the APC primary and restore unity within the party’s ranks in Lagos.
