Drama As Police Nab Suspect Posing As JAMB Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has arrested a suspect accused of impersonating the board’s Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, in an alleged attempt to defraud members of the public.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, following an intelligence-led investigation into the alleged fraudulent use of the Registrar’s identity across social media and other platforms.

According to Bush Radio Academy, JAMB said the suspect allegedly used Prof. Aina’s name and identity to engage members of the public in fraudulent activities. The board did not disclose the full details of the alleged transactions or the number of people who may have been targeted.

JAMB also clarified that the Registrar has not authorised anyone to solicit money, secure contracts, facilitate admissions or examinations, or request any form of gratification on his behalf.

The examination body urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify any request purportedly made in the Registrar’s name before taking action or making payments.

The board further warned Nigerians against responding to unsolicited financial demands and encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious activity involving the identities of JAMB officials to report it through the appropriate channels.

JAMB said the arrest demonstrates its commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to tackle attempts by fraudsters to exploit the names and positions of its officials for personal gain.

The board urged members of the public to remain vigilant, stressing that individuals should verify information before trusting requests linked to JAMB officials and avoid making payments based on unverified communications.
