Drama At Airport As Man Cancels Girlfriend’s Canada Trip Over Economy Ticket
A Nigerian man reportedly cancelled his girlfriend’s flight to Canada shortly before departure after she expressed dissatisfaction with the economy-class ticket he had purchased for her.
The incident was narrated by an X user identified as @Themrbachelor, who claimed he had accompanied his friend to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos when the unexpected situation unfolded.
According to the account, the man had been in a relationship with the woman for about five years and had spent three years working multiple jobs and saving towards relocating to Canada.
The X user said the man had purchased two economy-class tickets because he intended to travel to Canada alongside his girlfriend. However, the woman reportedly became unhappy after seeing the tickets and questioned why her partner had chosen economy class despite the money he had saved.
She allegedly complained that travelling in economy class would make their departure appear cheap on social media and questioned how she would post their trip online.
The woman was quoted as saying that after all the money her boyfriend had saved, she could not understand why he had booked economy class and expressed concern about how the trip would look on Snapchat.
The X user claimed that rather than engage in an argument, the man quietly opened the airline’s mobile application and cancelled his girlfriend’s booking.
According to the narration, the man’s action initially appeared to be a joke to both his friend and the woman. However, she reportedly realised he was serious after receiving a cancellation notification on her phone.
She allegedly confronted him by asking what he had done.
The man reportedly responded by telling her that she deserved to travel in business class, but he could not afford it and would therefore continue the journey to Canada alone.
He was quoted as saying, “You’re right… You deserve business class and I can’t afford it, so I’m going alone.”
The incident has since sparked reactions online, with social media users debating the couple’s expectations, financial priorities and the role of social media in relationships.
