Drama Erupts As PDP Senatorial Candidate Claims “The Two Million Given To Senators Are Too Small, It Is Not A Big Deal”

The drama further intensified when David O Aderinokun, the PDP Senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, took to Twitter, stating that the N2 million was, in fact, “too small” and questioning what a family man could do with such a sum. Aderinokun’s comments further fueled the already raging debate, with many questioning the rationale and sensitivity behind such a statement, especially in a country where millions live below the poverty line.

Aderinokun’s perspective, as seen in his tweet, insinuated that the sum, which translates to approximately $2,000, was not significant. He went on to argue that the main issue was the transparency of the transaction, suggesting that making the payment public was “a bit insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.”

“The 2m that was given to senators isn’t a big deal. It is even too small for a senator. What can a family man do with 2m Naira($2k). Why are we making it a big deal. But they shouldn’t have made it public. Making it public is a bit insensitive to plight of Nigerians”, He said.

Many Nigerians found Aderinokun’s remarks shocking, especially since the country has been grappling with economic challenges, with many people unable to meet basic daily needs. The Nigerian populace was further enraged by the juxtaposition of this ‘holiday fund’ with the recent proposal by legislators to spend a whopping N110 billion on vehicle procurement and other expenses.
