Atiku Moves To Kebbi As Court Delivers Major Blow To ADC Presidential Ambition
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has departed Sokoto State for Kebbi State to continue his presidential campaign activities under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), despite a Federal High Court ruling that nullified the process through which he emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Atiku is expected to attend the ADC presidential campaign rally scheduled to hold in Kebbi on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
According to Bush Radio Academy, a video shared on X by his Special Assistant on Media, Abdul Rasheeth, showed the former vice president leaving Sokoto after completing his campaign activities in the state.
His movement came just hours after Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a ruling nullifying the emergence of former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and other officials as national leaders of the ADC.
The court delivered the judgment in a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a Deputy National Chairman of the party, who challenged the process that produced the David Mark-led leadership.
Justice Lifu also nullified all actions taken by the party’s leadership under Mark and cancelled the nominations of all candidates presented by the ADC for the 2027 general elections.
The ruling has created fresh uncertainty surrounding the ADC’s leadership structure and its preparations for the forthcoming general elections, particularly regarding Atiku’s presidential ambition.
Despite the court’s decision, Atiku has continued with his scheduled campaign activities, with the Kebbi rally forming part of his ongoing efforts to mobilise support for his presidential bid.
The development represents a significant setback for the opposition party as it faces a legal battle over its leadership and the validity of its preparations for the 2027 elections.
