The rally ended at the Government House, where tensions arose as security officials reportedly told the crowd that only ‘Very Important Personalities’ would be allowed into the premises for the celebratory event. This sparked outrage among the loyalists, who expressed disappointment over their exclusion.
In response, Okpebholo, through a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, ordered the immediate redeployment of the Camp Commandant and other security personnel on duty during the incident.
He emphasized that the exclusion was unauthorized and completely out of step with the inclusive tone of the celebration. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to the people, media, and transparency, noting that a probe has been launched to identify those responsible.
“This action did not emanate from me and does not represent my values. I would never endorse any form of disrespect toward our supporters or members of the press,” the statement read. “As a governor chosen by the people, I remain dedicated to accessibility, unity, and respect for every stakeholder.”
Okpebholo assured that his administration will continue to uphold openness and inclusivity, reaffirming every supporter’s role in the mission to transform Edo State.
