Drama In Nasarawa APC: Ward Suspends Chairman Aliyu Bello Amid Internal Feud
The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) plunged into fresh crisis on Tuesday as the Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area announced the suspension of State Chairman, Aliyu Bello, over allegations of anti-party conduct.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This development came just hours after APC leaders across the state had rallied behind Bello, passing a vote of confidence in him during an emergency meeting in Lafia, the state capital.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lafia, the Chairman of the APC in Gayam Ward, Ibrahim Ilyasu, revealed that the ward’s executives unanimously agreed to the suspension, citing violations of the party’s constitution.
“In accordance with the powers granted to us under Article 21 (D) (i)-(iii) of the APC Constitution, and following extensive consultations with stakeholders in the ward, we hereby suspend Hon. Aliyu Bello from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect,” Ilyasu announced.
The ward executives accused Bello of working against the party’s interests by allegedly backing a candidate from another political party — an action they claimed had brought shame and disrepute to the APC.
“We have credible evidence that you publicly endorsed and campaigned for a candidate from a rival party,” Ilyasu stated, referencing Article 21 (O) (ii) and (vii) of the APC Constitution, which forbids actions likely to subject the party to ridicule or contempt.
The ward leaders further cautioned Bello against identifying himself as a party member or official pending the outcome of the disciplinary process.
“Your behavior has embarrassed the party, eroded trust in our collective efforts, and constitutes a grave violation of party discipline and loyalty. You are hereby advised to stop parading yourself as a member or officer of the APC in Gayam Ward,” Ilyasu warned.
In response, the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Otaru Douglas, dismissed the suspension as politically motivated, claiming it was part of a scheme sponsored by a gubernatorial aspirant to oust Bello through engineered internal dissent.
