Drama In Ogun Prison As Woman Arrested Over Alleged Drug Smuggling

A woman who visited an inmate at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been arrested after correctional officers allegedly discovered substances suspected to be a psychoactive drug concealed inside a sachet of beverage.

The woman was reportedly apprehended during a routine security screening at the entrance of the custodial facility on Friday, August 28, 2026.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka.

The statement disclosed that the incident occurred at about 1:33 p.m. when the woman arrived at the facility to visit an inmate awaiting execution.

During the mandatory screening, officers allegedly found a sachet of Milo containing substances suspected to be “colos,” a street term commonly associated with a psychoactive substance.

The Nigerian Correctional Service said the discovery underscored the vigilance of its personnel and the command’s commitment to preventing prohibited items from being smuggled into custodial facilities.

Following her arrest, the woman was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution in line with established procedures.

The Controller of Corrections in Ogun State, Kamoru Adesina, commended the officers involved in the arrest, describing their conduct as a demonstration of alertness and professionalism.

Adesina reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance towards drug trafficking and other forms of criminal activity within custodial centres.

He stressed that correctional facilities were designed to provide a secure environment for the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates and must not be used as channels for distributing illicit substances.

The Ogun State Command subsequently warned members of the public against attempting to undermine security at custodial facilities by bringing prohibited items into the centres.

The command further stated that individuals caught engaging in such activities would be subjected to the full force of the law.
