Ezekwesili urged Akpabio to resolve the matter with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by acting responsibly and upholding due process.
In a series of posts on her account on Saturday, Ezekwesili warned Akpabio against continuing to misuse public institutions to shield himself from scrutiny. She emphasized that doing so only further damages the credibility of the country’s democratic structures.
“For months, the world has watched you deliberately refuse to subject yourself—as a key figure in a vital democratic institution—to an impartial probe into the sexual harassment allegations brought against you by Senator @NatashaAkpoti,” she said.
“Instead of allowing a fair and transparent investigation, observers have witnessed disturbing attempts to intimidate and silence your accuser.”
She condemned Akpabio’s latest move, calling it “an irresponsible, unlawful, and irrational act” to involve the Federal Government in a personal matter, describing it as a desperate attempt to escape the consequences of avoiding independent scrutiny.
Ezekwesili added:
“Senator @Senator_Akpabio, I urge you to reverse course and bring this saga to an honorable end. This is not just about your reputation—it’s about preserving the integrity of our public institutions.
“You misused Senate rules to suspend your accuser, but now refuse to comply with the same procedures that mandate such serious allegations be addressed through an independent process within the @NGRSenate.”
She called on Akpabio to:
-
Cease the abuse of public institutions to shield himself from independent investigation.
-
Urge allies in the Executive to withdraw the criminal case filed against Senator Akpoti, which she described as a blatant misuse of the judiciary.
-
Initiate open dialogue with fellow senators, who she said have remained silent amid the ongoing abuse, and provide them with a safe space to speak freely.
-
Voluntarily step aside to allow the Senate to form an independent ad hoc committee to hear both sides and bring resolution to the scandal.
