He cited the PDP’s declining internal unity and the commendable achievements of APC leaders as key reasons for his switch.
Nwazunku announced his defection during an APC stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday at Ugwuachara in Echiaba Ward, located in Ebonyi Local Government Area.
Welcoming the former lawmaker and his supporters, the Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha—represented by Chief Patrick Orogbo, the party chairman in Ebonyi LGA—hailed the move as both “strategic and bold.”
“Our party remains firmly rooted in internal democracy, inclusiveness, and transparency, regardless of one’s former political affiliation,” Orogbo assured.
Also speaking, Echiaba Ward APC Chairman, Mr. Amobi Nwofoke, credited the ongoing wave of defections in the state to the transformational governance of Governor Francis Nwifuru. He stated, “The governor’s impactful development projects have weakened the opposition, aligning the state more closely with APC’s vision.”
Explaining his departure from the PDP, Nwazunku said he had become disillusioned with the party due to its lack of cohesion and political direction.
“My spirit had long departed from the PDP because of its crumbling unity and diminishing relevance,” he remarked.
He also praised the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru, saying, “Their exceptional governance inspired my decision to join APC. I’m committed to rallying my supporters across the state to ensure our party’s dominance, especially as we approach the 2027 general elections.”
The defection ceremony drew a large crowd of APC supporters and key political figures from within and beyond the ward, dealing another setback to the PDP in Ebonyi State.
