Drama Unfolds: Police Reveal Why Brave Boy Who Faced Peter Obi’s Convoy Was Arrested

The Lagos State Police Command has provided clarification regarding the arrest and detention of 18-year-old Alabi Quadri, who rose to prominence during the 2023 presidential election for boldly standing in front of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s convoy.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police disclosed that Quadri was remanded to a correctional centre after being allegedly involved in a violent street altercation earlier this year in the Amukoko area of Lagos.

Hundeyin said the incident took place on January 22, 2025, when clashes broke out between rival youth gangs, leading to chaos, destruction of property, and injuries to innocent bystanders. The violence reportedly escalated into full-blown street fights, during which several individuals were robbed and harmed.

“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the growing public interest in the case of Alabi Quadri, the 18-year-old recently remanded for his involvement in violent attacks, public disturbance, and destruction of both public and private property in the Amukoko area,” Hundeyin stated.

The command confirmed that a swift investigation was launched, assisted by eyewitness reports and testimonies from victims. As a result, Quadri and four other suspects were apprehended and formally charged in court. The court subsequently ordered their remand pending the conclusion of the trial.

“Victims of the attacks gave statements and were able to identify those responsible. After a thorough investigation, Quadri and four others were arrested and brought before the court, which ordered their remand in a correctional facility,” Hundeyin added.

The police emphasized that due process was followed throughout and urged the public to allow the judiciary to carry out its duties without interference.

Allegation of Frame-Up

However, Inibehe Effiong, the lawyer representing Quadri, has vehemently denied the police’s claims. Effiong described the charges as fabricated, alleging that his client was falsely accused by two known area thugs, identified as Lege and Baba Waris, as part of what he called a “diabolical frame-up.”
