Fayose revealed that his decision to confront Buhari came at a steep price, as he has been entangled in legal battles for the past seven years.
In 2016, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Fayose, alongside former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; Sylvan Mcnamara Limited; Lt. A.O. Adewale; Tunde Oshinowo; and Olalekan Ogunseye, before a Federal High Court in Abuja on 11 counts of money laundering.
They were accused of laundering approximately ₦1.219 billion, allegedly drawn from a ₦4.7 billion sum traced to an account held by the Office of the National Security Adviser at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Speaking on the matter during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels TV, Fayose recalled being assaulted by security agents, resulting in a serious neck injury that required three surgical procedures.
“When I declared that I would oppose Buhari at all costs, I paid the price. For seven years, I’ve been going from one court to another. They struck my neck, and I ended up having three surgeries,” he said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart also commented on the current tension within the party, particularly involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He urged for reconciliation and peace between Wike and other discontented PDP leaders.
