Drug Bust At Lagos Airport: Two Suspects Found with 150 Cocaine Wraps In Stomachs

NDLEA intercepted approximately 6,125 cartons of codeine syrup, valued at over N7.35 billion, at the Port Harcourt Ports complex in Onne, Rivers State. This seizure, conducted on June 29th, involved six containers and marks the third successful operation in the past month. The operation was facilitated by a special operations unit of NDLEA, leveraging credible intelligence and meticulous tracking from the point of departure to the port.

In a separate incident in Abuja, NDLEA operatives disrupted a drug party named “Go Hard or Go Home. Pick Your Poison,” apprehending 60 individuals (25 males and 35 females) at an apartment within the Sun City estate. The raid, prompted by reliable intelligence, targeted an event organized by Stanley Ikechukwu, who was arrested on-site. During the operation, six suspects were found in possession of various quantities of ecstasy and cannabis.

Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, retired Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa, directed that 20 suspects testing negative for drugs be released immediately. Thirty-three others who tested positive are set to be released on bail, mandated to report to the FCT Command for rehabilitation and counseling starting Monday.

Moreover, NDLEA seized approximately 40.32 kg of Loud, a potent strain of imported cannabis, from a black Toyota Tacoma truck abandoned on the Lekki-Ikoyi road upon detecting NDLEA pursuit. Additionally, in a forest in Ugun, Igueben LGA, Edo State, NDLEA operatives arrested Endurance Okon, Joseph Michael, Ovoco Bright, and Goday Abanum, while dismantling 18,632.22 kg of cannabis cultivated on 7.452888 hectares of farmland.

Across Nigeria, NDLEA commands continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiatives, conducting sensitization campaigns in schools, religious centers, workplaces, and communities. These efforts included educational lectures at various institutions such as First Technical University in Ibadan, Government Day Secondary School in Yola, and Ezeike High School in Nibo, Anambra State. Additionally, NDLEA conducted advocacy visits to the palace of the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, Dr. Murtala Alimi Otitese, as part of their broader anti-drug abuse advocacy.

Chairman Marwa commended the MMIA, Port Harcourt Ports, Lagos, and Edo Commands for their effective operations and cautioned drug traffickers that despite their strategies, NDLEA remains vigilant and proactive in collaboration with partners to counter drug trafficking effectively. He urged continued commitment to the agency’s balanced approach to drug control efforts nationwide.
