According to the charges, Emefiele is accused of unlawfully possessing a single-barrel shotgun without a license, as well as being in possession of 123 rounds of live ammunition without a license.

Both offenses are in violation of the Firearms Laws of the Federation 2004.

Emefiele, who was arrested on June 10, 2023, a day after his suspension by President Bola Tinubu, has been held in the custody of the DSS.

However, a Federal High Court in Abuja recently ruled that his continued detention was unjust and ordered the DSS to either charge him to court within a week or release him.

In compliance with the court’s judgment, the DSS has now charged Emefiele and disclosed that the charges were filed after the court’s decision.
