Ajayi argued that integrating top academic minds into intelligence and security institutions would make it more difficult for criminals to operate. He emphasized that a policy should be enacted to ensure first-class graduates are automatically drafted into the DSS to enhance national security.

Speaking at the 2025 Distinguished Personality Lecture at the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Ajayi—represented by DSS Deputy Director Patrick Ikenweiwe—stressed the need for universities to provide details of exceptional students for recruitment into security agencies.

Addressing the topic, “The Roles of the DSS in Security, Peacekeeping, and National Integration,” Ajayi highlighted the importance of proper recruitment processes and advocated for the inclusion of only the most qualified individuals in national security.

He cited Israel’s system, where students scoring above 70 in a national exam are automatically admitted into universities, suggesting Nigeria adopt a similar approach for security recruitment.

“Tell me, how would an unintelligent person manage security in a criminal gang composed of first-class minds? It takes intellect to combat crime,” he stated.

Ajayi concluded by emphasizing that academia should play an active role in identifying top-performing students who should be compelled to serve the nation in security roles.
