Edo State’s Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, has provided insight into the abduction of Dangote Cement Company workers who were traveling in a Coaster bus from Okpella, Etsako West Local Government Area in Edo North Senatorial District, at 6 p.m. on Monday. Earlier, reports by Naija News highlighted the ambush and attack on these workers.

Expanding on the incident, Adegboye revealed that three of the victims, sustaining gunshot wounds, have been rescued and are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

“On May 13, 2024, at 10:00 PM, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okpella Division, Edo State, received a distress call from the head of security at Dangote Cement Factory, Okpella, Edo State, reporting an attack on a bus transporting Dangote Cement workers,” Adegboye stated.

He continued, “The assailants, suspected to be kidnappers, intercepted the bus at 6:00 PM, taking several passengers into the nearby bush. Promptly, the DPO coordinated a rescue operation with his team, vigilance group members, and local hunters, combing the forest vigorously to secure the victims’ safe release and apprehend the culprits.”

“In the process, a man identified as Omoba, sustained bullet wounds during the attack. He was swiftly evacuated to Halimatu Musa Hospital for urgent medical attention. Additionally, two other victims, including one Victor Okon, also received treatment at the same medical facility,” Adegboye added.

The Commissioner directed the DPO of Okpella division, along with the vigilance group members and local hunters, to escalate efforts in combing the bush to expedite the rescue of the remaining captives and apprehend the kidnappers.

Adegboye issued these instructions during his recent visit to Dangote Cement factory in Okpella and Halimatu Musa Hospital, where he met with the injured victims of the abduction.
