Furthermore, he addressed the ongoing feud between Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, labeling it as a mere diversionary tactic. I, Chief Lucky Imasuen, have chosen to speak out today not as a Gubernatorial contender but as a concerned citizen of Edo State. The issues at hand transcend political affiliations, and my unwavering commitment to the welfare of our people drives my candid assessment of the current state of affairs in our beloved state.

Governance should be a solemn duty, a pact of trust between leaders and the led. However, it is with a heavy heart that I find myself compelled to raise these pressing questions regarding the leadership of our current governor, Godwin Obaseki.

In the interest of transparency, I have inquired about apparent contradictions in Governor Obaseki’s attitude on federal road projects, which are primarily intended to benefit our population.

It’s important to note that Governor Obaseki had previously benefited significantly when the Buhari administration approved the refund of over 16 billion Naira, which encompassed the costs of the Federal Roads constructed across the state during his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole’s, tenure.

This fact should serve as a clear incentive for Governor Obaseki, indicating that by fulfilling his responsibility in improving these roads, he would have a prompt opportunity for reimbursement from the Federal Government.

Moreover, I have dared Governor Obaseki to look inward and acknowledge the reality that our state capital, Benin City, is in dire need of well-maintained roads. We owe it to ourselves as Edo citizens to demand nothing less than functional infrastructure.

The ongoing dispute between Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, is a terrible diversion of time and energy that Obaseki could have better spent on furthering infrastructure development. Edo State deserves better, and I refuse to let political squabbles overshadow our joint ambitions for growth.

My concerns extend to the responsible management of public funds, be it during the COVID-19 pandemic or in response to the Fuel Subsidy removal palliative. The people’s trust in the equitable distribution of resources should never be compromised.

Lastly, the escalating debt burden under Governor Obaseki’s administration is a cause for alarm. We cannot mortgage the future of our state for short-term gains.

In conclusion, my intention is not to criticize for the sake of it, but to urge Governor Obaseki to address these critical concerns. Our state’s progress and prosperity should be the ultimate goal, and I hope my candid words resonate with fellow citizens who share the same vision for a better Edo.
