The guild commended the collective efforts of the South-East governors in addressing these challenges and applauded the infrastructure development and enhanced security measures undertaken by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
Following its Standing Committee meeting held in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, the NGE released a statement, jointly signed by NGE President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren.
The guild emphasized the fundamental responsibility of governments at all levels to secure the lives and property of citizens, and it highlighted that the current state of insecurity in some states constitutes an abandonment of this essential duty.
The statement noted the tragic loss of countless innocent lives and the adverse impact on social activities and the nation’s economy due to insecurity in these regions.
The NGE expressed hope that the upcoming security summit, scheduled to take place in Owerri, Imo State, between Thursday, September 28, and Friday, September 29, would involve key stakeholders and address these pressing issues.
Recognizing the broader implications of insecurity in the South-East, the NGE described it as a threat to the entire nation and expressed optimism that the security summit would lead to lasting solutions.
During their three-day stay in Bayelsa State, the editors acknowledged Governor Diri’s consistent focus on security and extensive road construction projects connecting various local government areas. Notable among these projects are the commercially valuable Nembe-Brass road,
the Yenagoa-Southern Ijaw road, the Ekeremor-Sagbama road, and the recently commissioned Igbogene-Ojopa dual carriageway in the state capital, which was inaugurated by the Sultan of Sokoto.
