Edwin Clark Criticizes Governors For Becoming Demigods And Amassing Wealth

Edwin Clark, leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has expressed his concern over the increasing power and wealth of many state governors, describing them as demigods due to their widespread ownership of various assets.

Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, accuses these governors of exploiting their positions to accumulate considerable riches for themselves, their families, and their associates.
Furthermore, he emphasizes that certain governors have amassed wealth to an extent surpassing that of their respective states.
“It is regrettable that individuals who were insignificant yesterday have swiftly risen to immense wealth and power upon assuming the mantle of governors.
Their authority as governors, combined with unrestricted access to funds, enables them to engage in virtually anything, except that which transcends divine permission,” Clark states.
He continues, “Several governors have amassed fortunes that exceed the economic strength of their states. Contracts are awarded at inflated prices, with the governor reserving a significant 80% share of the project for personal gain, leaving a mere 20% for the state’s benefit.
This unethical and unlawful practice is both illicit and criminal. Governors have morphed into demigods, claiming ownership over nearly every conceivable asset.”
In his autobiography, Clark raises concerns about the pervasive influence of governors, their rapid accumulation of wealth, and the need for transparency and accountability in governance.
