Oyo-Ita and others are currently facing charges related to fraud, specifically involving duty tour allowance, estacodes, conference fees, and the receipt of kickbacks amounting to N3 billion.
The charges were brought against Oyo-Ita in March 2020 by the EFCC, alongside her Special Assistant, Ubong Effiok, Frontline Ace Global Services Limited, Asanaya Projects Ltd, Garba Umar, Slopes International Ltd, and Good Deal Investments Ltd.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, Chief Superintendent Bello, the Head of Special Investigation Team at EFCC, served as the eighth prosecution witness. Bello, led by EFCC’s lawyer Farouk Abdullah, testified that his team received intelligence in 2019, while Oyo-Ita held the position of permanent secretary.
The intelligence indicated that Oyo-Ita and other staff, including Effiok, were allegedly utilizing their official positions to secure contracts for companies in which they had vested interests. Subsequently, an investigation was initiated, and documents were requested.
Bello informed the court that Oyo-Ita and Effiok were invited as part of the investigation. It was revealed that Oyo-Ita was the beneficial owner of two companies, namely Frontline Ace Global Services Limited and Asanaya Projects Ltd. Furthermore, the investigation uncovered that Oyo-Ita maintained two accounts in a new generation bank for Frontline Ace Global Services Limited.The presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, adjourned the trial until January 26 for its continuation.
