Election Tension: Fadahunsi Launches Fresh Attack On Adeleke, Blames Him For Osun Violence

Published

The lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, has accused Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of allegedly introducing political violence into the Ife/Ijesa axis ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Fadahunsi made the allegation on Wednesday during a press conference in Osogbo, a day after Adeleke called for his immediate arrest over alleged incitement of supporters to attack members of the ruling Accord Party.

The senator criticised the governor over what he described as a failure to prevent politically motivated violence and killings, alleging that the situation had spread into Osun East.

Fadahunsi claimed that about 30 APC members had been killed in Osun State within the past month, describing the alleged attacks as coordinated efforts to intimidate opposition supporters and discourage them from voting.

He said:

“Adeleke created terrorism from Ede into Osun East, the stronghold of APC, for us to be destabilised, so that people will not go out en masse to cast their votes.”

Fadahunsi Raises Alarm Over Ijesa Violence

Speaking about recent violence in Ijesa land, the senator alleged that four people were killed and 16 others sustained gunshot injuries during a dispute over control of local government administration.

He also referred to violence recorded in Esa-Oke in April 2025, claiming that four people were killed while 12 others suffered gunshot wounds.

Fadahunsi accused unnamed government officials and political associates of allegedly being behind some of the attacks.

“Go to Wesley Guild, there are corpses everywhere. The former Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, and Remi Omowaiye are in hospital instead of planning for the election,” he said.

The senator further alleged that individuals linked to cult groups were being used to perpetrate violence in parts of Ijesa land.

Reiterating his accusations against Adeleke, Fadahunsi said the alleged violence was concentrated in Osun East, which he described as an APC stronghold.

“We observed that it is only Osun East that this governor from Ede is terrorising. Governor Adeleke created terrorism from Ede into Osun East, the stronghold of APC for us to be destabilised, so that people will not go out en masse to cast their votes.”

Senator Calls for Security Intervention

Fadahunsi called on security agencies to take decisive action against individuals suspected of attempting to disrupt the election or prevent voters from exercising their constitutional rights.

“I want to urge the security agencies to ensure arrest of anyone who may want to prevent our people from coming out en masse.”

He insisted that no political party should attempt to retain power through intimidation or force, urging authorities to ensure that the election was conducted peacefully and transparently.

“If they want to return to power by force, it is not possible. Let us do our election free and fair, not by introducing terrorism in my district to chase away the people,” Fadahunsi said.
