Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, has called for the immediate arrest of individuals involved in vote buying.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He made the appeal during a press briefing after casting his vote at Polling Unit 019, Aguluzoigbo Town Hall, Ward Three, Anaocha Local Government Area. Umeh expressed frustration that such practices continue to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

The senator described the election as largely peaceful and seamless, noting that, unlike previous polls, there have been no reports of BVAS machine malfunctions.

“This is the first time I haven’t received complaints from my constituents about difficulties in voting,” he said. “The atmosphere across the state is calm, security is in place, and everything appears to be running smoothly.”

Umeh emphasized the importance of conducting elections based on citizens’ votes rather than manipulation or rigging, stating, “If we uphold the integrity of the process, our democracy will grow and flourish. It’s still early, and we will only know the full picture once final results are tallied.”

On the issue of vote buying, he warned, “Anyone who believes the only way to attain office is through buying votes is an enemy of the state and Nigeria. Vote buying is illegal. Those selling their votes are essentially giving up their right to hold leaders accountable. No amount of money received today can last even two days, and it will compromise your future.”

He added, “The people of Nigeria, not politicians, hold the power to change the nation. Citizens elect leaders, so participating in vote buying harms not only themselves but their families. Where evidence exists, perpetrators must be arrested. Voters should make informed choices based on candidates’ merits, thereby strengthening our democracy.”
