Emir Sanusi II Speaks Out After Police Surround His Palace In KanoThe Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for peace and urged his supporters to refrain from taking the law into their own hands following the heavy security presence at his palace on Friday.

Earlier reports from Naija News indicated heightened tensions in Kano after security operatives blocked access to the Emir’s palace, preventing him from attending a royal event in Bichi Local Government Area. The Emir was scheduled to oversee the presentation of a staff of office to a newly appointed district head in Bichi.

Despite the heavy deployment of security forces, including Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) stationed at the palace gates, Emir Sanusi II was unable to attend the ceremony. He was also expected to accompany the newly appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his official district posting in Bichi.

This incident comes amid recent developments regarding the traditional leadership in Kano, adding to the tensions surrounding the Emir’s position.

In his sermon at the Emirate’s Jummaat Mosque on Friday, Emir Sanusi II addressed the situation, urging calm. He warned his supporters against falling into the traps of those seeking to destabilize Kano: “I warn you against the enemies of Kano who want to see our city in flames. They want to see violence, the destruction of property, and the suffering of innocent people.”

The Emir, who is also the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, emphasized the importance of peace and patience, regardless of provocation. “Islam teaches us to be patient in all situations, whether in times of peace or adversity,” he said. “Patience in the face of attack leads to greatness, while impatience breeds uncertainty and hardship, ultimately harming everyone.”

Sanusi urged his followers to reject violence and remain committed to peaceful coexistence, stating, “Anyone who loves us and supports us should always shun violence, no matter the circumstances.
