Emotions Run High As Actress Tope Osoba Receives Final Farewell Weeks After Her Death

Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has been laid to rest in her hometown of Iperu Remo, Ogun State, weeks after her death was announced.

Family members, friends, colleagues and other sympathisers gathered on Thursday to bid farewell to the Yoruba movie actress, with mourners dressed in white as they paid their final respects. Her remains were taken from the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu to Akesan Club in Iperu Remo, where the funeral service was held before she was later buried at the Iperu Remo Cemetery.

According to Bush Radio Academy, several prominent figures from the Yoruba film industry attended the funeral to honour the late actress, including Foluke Daramola, Kunle Afod and Joke Jigan. Their presence reflected the impact Osoba had on colleagues and audiences throughout her acting career.

Osoba’s death was announced on August 5, 2026, months after she reportedly underwent surgery for breast cancer. Her family had initially planned to hold her burial on August 13, alongside a candlelight procession and an artistes’ tribute night, but the arrangements were later postponed to allow the family to conclude other necessary preparations.

The actress built a reputation through her appearances in Yoruba-language Nollywood productions and spent years contributing to the Nigerian film industry. Following news of her death, colleagues and fans paid tributes to her, remembering her for her dedication to acting and her contribution to the Yoruba movie scene.

Her eventual burial in Iperu Remo brought together loved ones and members of the entertainment industry, who gathered to honour her memory and accompany her on her final journey. Osoba’s interment marks the end of a period of mourning that followed the announcement of her death and has left colleagues and fans reflecting on her career and legacy.
