End Of An Era: Messi To Receive Grand Argentina Farewell On October 6

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has confirmed that Lionel Messi has accepted an invitation to receive a special farewell from the national team following his decision to retire from international football.

According to Bush Radio Academy, AFA president Claudio Tapia disclosed that the Argentine football authorities, after discussions with national team head coach Lionel Scaloni, decided to honour the legendary captain with a farewell match in Argentina on October 6.

Tapia described Messi as the emblem of the national team and one of the greatest players in football history, stressing that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner deserves a fitting farewell in front of Argentine supporters.

The AFA has also invited members of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning squad and their families to attend the international friendly, adding a special significance to the occasion.

The encounter is expected to mark Messi’s 208th appearance for Argentina, while the Inter Miami forward will also have an opportunity to add to his national-team record of 125 goals.

Messi has enjoyed an extraordinary international career with Argentina, leading the country to victory at the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa América. His achievements have cemented his status as one of the most decorated players in Argentine football history.

Beyond his international success, Messi has also continued to make history at club level. The Argentine superstar helped Inter Miami secure the club’s first MLS title in 2025, further extending an already remarkable career.
