I Am Profoundly Saddened — Atiku Mourns Death Of Nollywood Icon Olu Jacobs

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) 2027 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor and film executive, Olu Jacobs, who died at the age of 84.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Atiku, in a statement issued on Wednesday, described the late actor as an institution and a cultural icon whose contribution to Nigeria’s creative industry extended across generations.

Atiku said Nigeria had lost more than a distinguished actor, describing Jacobs as one of the notable figures who helped shape the country’s creative identity before Nollywood gained international recognition.

“I am profoundly saddened by the passing of Olu Jacobs at the age of 84. Nigeria has lost far more than a great actor; we have lost an institution, a cultural icon and one of the finest ambassadors of our creative spirit,” Atiku stated.

He recalled Jacobs’ long career and the impact of his performances on generations of Nigerians, noting that the actor became a familiar presence in homes across the country through his work in film and television.

Atiku also highlighted Jacobs’ contribution to the growth of Nollywood, saying that his dedication to acting helped lay foundations for an industry that would later achieve global prominence.

According to the former vice president, Jacobs gave life to Nigerian stories, promoted the country’s culture through his craft and inspired younger actors who followed after him.

Atiku described the actor’s death as a deeply painful loss, while noting that the standards he established and the generations he influenced would remain part of his legacy.

He extended his condolences to Jacobs’ wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, their children and the entire Jacobs family.

“My heart goes especially to his beloved wife and lifelong partner, Joke Silva, their children and the entire Jacobs family. I pray that the memories of the beautiful life they shared with him will bring them strength through this painful season,” he said.

Atiku also prayed for God to grant the late actor eternal rest, adding that Olu Jacobs had given Nigeria a lifetime of excellence through his career and service to the creative industry.
