Speaking during a Senate plenary in Abuja, Maidoki emphasized the need for a consistent and decisive approach, warning against oscillating between negotiation and military action.
“We know who these bandits are, where they operate, and what they want,” he said on the Senate floor. He questioned why, despite this knowledge, no decisive measures have been taken to neutralize the criminal networks terrorizing communities.
Maidoki’s remarks follow recent high-profile abductions that have reignited national concern. Notably, 38 members of the Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State were kidnapped by bandits, though they were later released. In a separate incident, over 200 students were abducted from a Catholic private school in Niger State, with 50 reportedly escaping and reuniting with their families.
In response to the escalating crisis, the senator called on the government to adopt a single, resolute course of action. “If we are going to negotiate, then do it and conclude it; if we are going to fight, then fight to the end. What is the big deal?” he asked.
Maidoki also criticized authorities for protecting perpetrators through silence, questioning why vital information is being withheld despite clear evidence of their activities. “We know everything. What are we covering?” he asked, lamenting the lack of transparency at a critical time.
