Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has dismissed claims that he endorsed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The speculation followed a recent swearing-in ceremony for Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, where Ganduje publicly addressed Sanusi using his full traditional title — a move that drew applause from guests and dignitaries.

However, in a statement issued by his Chief of Staff and former Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje clarified that the gesture was purely out of respect and adherence to protocol, not an endorsement.

He stressed that the ongoing Kano emirship dispute remains before the courts and that only the Supreme Court can make a final decision on Sanusi’s status. According to him, any eventual ruling would then be implemented by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in line with the law.

Ganduje also warned against making comments that could interfere with the judicial process, noting that the matter is still sub judice. He recalled that the Court of Appeal had earlier instructed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the Supreme Court’s final judgment.

He explained that the current legal position recognises Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano, while Sanusi remains recognised as the 14th Emir until the apex court delivers its verdict.

The former governor further noted that he has no constitutional authority to support or oppose any claimant to the throne, emphasizing that the issue is solely for the judiciary and the Kano State Government to resolve.

According to Ganduje, sections of the media exaggerated what was merely a routine and respectful acknowledgment during a public event. He urged all parties to remain calm and await the Supreme Court’s judgment expected next year.
