However, a receipt from an Enugu-based business revealed that the levy was indeed being collected. Later that evening, Alex Onyia, Secretary to the Enugu State Government, announced the government’s decision to stop the levy on lister, solar, and generator use.

The statement also instructed the refund of all levies collected to date and the termination of the consultancy responsible for the collection. Onyia clarified that while the Environmental and Climate Protection Law empowers the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to regulate emissions, the necessary implementation framework is not yet in place.
