Former Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hillard Etta, has downplayed the ability of opposition political parties to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with Arise News on Saturday, Etta dismissed concerns about the defection of Nasir El-Rufai, stating that it would not impact APC’s chances in 2027. He explained that El-Rufai had only supported President Tinubu in 2023 after being convinced that Tinubu was the likely winner of the election.

Etta further noted that the potential alliance between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would not pose a threat to the APC’s victory, recalling that the APC had previously defeated the pair in the 2019 elections.

“In 2019, we faced Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi on the same ticket, and the APC triumphed. Let me remind you that in 2023, despite all the noise, we lost the election in Kaduna State, where El-Rufai was in charge. We barely garnered 27% of the votes there,” Etta stated.

He continued, “El-Rufai supported Tinubu because he saw him as the most likely winner of the election. Before joining the bandwagon, El-Rufai recognized that Asiwaju Tinubu would win. This was made possible by the grassroots support we had in Nigeria, which remains strong. We actually hope the opposition parties come together, but in politics, wishes don’t always translate into reality. Many of these figures are likely to throw their hats into the 2027 presidential race, but it will be difficult for them to find common ground to field a united candidate against the APC.”

Etta emphasized that the APC was closely monitoring the political landscape leading up to the 2027 election, and expressed confidence that the party was fully prepared to address the challenges ahead.

“The APC is a party that values research and strategy. We are diligently studying the political environment and working to find solutions. Rest assured, we are on top of the situation,” Etta concluded.
