Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari has strongly denied ownership of the properties allegedly traced to him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the ongoing asset disclosure trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Testifying before Justice James Omotosho on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Kyari described the NDLEA’s claims as “shocking, misleading, and completely false,” insisting that several of the assets listed by the agency actually belonged to his late father.

“Some of those properties belonged to my late father, who had about 30 children,” the embattled former head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) stated in court.

Kyari said he was stunned when the NDLEA linked multiple assets to him, adding that the documents for the properties were in the custody of the Borno State Ministry of Land.

He also dismissed reports that he owned a polo ground in Borno State, stressing that such an acquisition was far beyond his financial capacity.

“Even Dangote, the richest man in Nigeria, doesn’t own such land — how could I?” Kyari said, prompting murmurs across the courtroom.

According to him, the Borno polo ground mentioned by the NDLEA had existed long before he was born.

“That polo ground has been there since I was a child. We used to play there. It’s not mine,” he clarified.

Kyari’s legal team argued that the NDLEA’s allegations were based on “mere assumptions” rather than verified ownership documents.

While denying links to the other properties, the suspended officer admitted to owning only one asset — a farmland along the Abuja–Kaduna Road, which he said he had cultivated for over a decade through legitimate income.

“I’ve been managing that farmland for about ten years now. It’s the only property I own,” he testified.

Kyari, once hailed as a top crime-buster, was suspended in 2022 over alleged involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy. The NDLEA later accused him of concealing assets and collaborating with international drug networks — allegations he has repeatedly denied.

The court has adjourned the case to a later date for continuation of hearing.
