A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the 2027 presidential race, saying even an alliance with infamous terrorists like Abubakar Shekau and Bello Turji wouldn’t secure them victory.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Akindele argued that Atiku and El-Rufai should be completely sidelined from future leadership roles, especially when power rotates back to the North in 2031. According to him, the North deserves a leader who represents the interests of all Nigerians—not figures like Atiku or El-Rufai.

Taking to Facebook, Akindele wrote:

“If Atiku and El-Rufai like, let them align with Shekau and Turji—they’ll still suffer a humiliating defeat in 2027.”

He went on to criticize the credibility of the opposition’s new coalition, saying:

“Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai are not in control of any political party. Is that how to build a formidable coalition? In 2015, Tinubu had ACN, Buhari had CPC—they merged and attracted other defectors. That’s how an opposition alliance works.”

Akindele also pointed out a key difference in political dynamics:

“Back then, GEJ completed Yar’Adua’s term and was seeking a fresh one—this gave Buhari-Tinubu’s coalition an edge. But now, Tinubu is serving his own term, not anyone else’s. So if they lose in 2027, they’ll only have INEC to blame!”

His remarks come in the wake of Atiku Abubakar’s recent revelation of a new opposition coalition, reportedly involving former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, former APC strongman Nasir El-Rufai, and other political heavyweights.

The coalition’s mission is clear: to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. El-Rufai’s recent defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—amid criticisms of APC’s internal democracy under Tinubu—further adds fuel to the political realignment.
