The sacked employees are demanding full payment of their monthly salaries, allowances, and other financial benefits they would have received if their employment had not been terminated. They are asking for these payments from the date of their dismissal until their expected retirement from the bank.
The lead counsel for the former CBN staff, Ola Olanipekun (SAN), made the court documents available to select journalists in Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday. Olanipekun stated that the dismissed staff are seeking to enforce their right to a fair hearing, arguing that they were unjustly terminated by the CBN.
According to *Arise TV*, Olanipekun described the apex bank’s action as unlawful and stated that it had caused significant financial harm to his clients, amounting to hundreds of millions of Naira. He emphasized that the plaintiffs are requesting the court to order the bank to pay their outstanding monthly salaries, allowances, and other entitlements.
One of the plaintiffs, who had nine years of service remaining with the bank, would have earned ₦1,621,455.70 monthly, according to his salary records. Olanipekun argued that this plaintiff should be compensated with the full amount he would have earned until his lawful retirement on August 4, 2033, totaling ₦178,360,127.00.
Additionally, the plaintiffs are seeking ₦100,000,000 in general damages for wrongful termination and ₦30,000,000 to cover the costs of litigation, with a 21 percent post-judgment interest on all awarded sums until the judgment is fully satisfied.
Olanipekun explained that the lawsuit was initiated through an Originating Summons dated August 22, 2024, supported by a 27-paragraph affidavit sworn by the claimant.
