Ex-Gov Bafarawa Urges Swift Action Against Bandit Kingpin Bello Turji
“If someone like Turji can unleash such mayhem and disrupt movement in our communities, it demands immediate action. The government must rise to the challenge,” Bafarawa emphasized.
Turji had earlier issued a chilling ultimatum, warning of violence if his detained relatives were not released by January 1, 2025. In a viral video, he declared, “I will begin 2025 by killing the people of Shinkafi. Afterward, we will demand ransom, disrupt the peaceful order, and restore conflict. If they want peace, they must release our people.”
Military Closing In on Bello Turji
Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has assured the public that the military is intensifying efforts to capture Turji. Speaking on Channels Television’s 2024 Year-In-Review program on December 31, 2024, Musa disclosed that Turji has gone underground, aware that the military is pursuing him.
However, Musa stated that the bandit leader’s evasion is temporary. “We have already neutralized his commanders, and it’s only a matter of time before Turji himself is apprehended,” he affirmed, underscoring the military’s commitment to restoring peace in the region.
