According to Abdullahi, zoning is not currently on the ADC’s agenda.

“Unlike other parties, our focus is on building solid structures nationwide. That is far more important to us right now than debating where our presidential candidate will come from. When the time comes, it won’t be a secret—we will make our position clear on whether or not we are adopting zoning,” he said.

He also rejected claims that the ADC was pursuing northern interests, describing such suggestions as false and misleading.

“We will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed by such narratives. When the time comes, we will take decisions in the best interest of our party and Nigerians. Whoever we present as our candidate will be chosen strategically to win elections and deliver on our plans for the country, not simply because other parties are doing zoning,” he added.

On whether competence would take precedence over zoning, Abdullahi noted that both could go hand in hand.

“Absolutely, they are not mutually exclusive. Zoning does not mean competence will be sacrificed. But for now, it is not a conversation we are ready to have as a party,” the ADC spokesman stated.
